In November 2024, Jelena joined the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency as Proactive Media and Science Communications Lead.

Jelena is a Media Officer in the Sanger Institute Communications team. With previous experience in public health policy, public affairs, and science communication, she works to share the story of Sanger's pioneering science to the wider world.

Working across the Institute’s six programmes, Jelena helps translate detailed research into compelling content for the public via traditional and social media. She crafts strong narratives and also navigates any ethical, policy and crisis communication challenges.

Beyond content creation, Jelena manages media relations to ensure positive interactions between Sanger researchers and journalists. This involves organising journalist visits to the Institute and supporting scientists on speaking effectively about their work. Through strategic engagement with news outlets, she aims to communicate the importance and real-world impact of Sanger’s genomics research.
