Xiaotian is a PhD student co-supervised by Professor Ben Lehner and Dr. Jyoti Nangalia. She is interested in studying how protein sequences and functions are shaped by evolution.

Biography

Xiaotian earned her undergraduate degree in Natural and Computational Sciences from Minerva University. After graduation, she conducted research at the Boston Children’s Hospital, investigating how genetic variants affect blood cell production in individuals with blood cancers.

With a strong interest in applying statistical methods to biological problems, Xiaotian pursued an MPhil in Computational Biology at the University of Cambridge, where she led research on leveraging large language models to analyze liquid biopsy data for early cancer detection.

Now pursuing her PhD at the Wellcome Sanger Institute, she is driven by her passion for systematic and quantitative biology, focusing on how evolution shapes protein sequences and functions.
