Rachael’s research in Marcus Lee’s group focused on developing a platform for screening of cross-resistance from compounds with unknown modes of action and resistance fitness characterisation.
Rachael joined the Sanger institute in 2014 as a research assistant in the proteomics group before moving to the Rayner group in the malaria programme in 2015. As an advanced research assistant, she employed CRISPR/Cas9, imaging flow cytometry and fluorescence microscopy to work on functional studies of putative invasion genes in P. Knowlesi at scale.
Rachael later moved to the Lee group as a senior research assistant in 2020 to work on developing a platform for screening of cross-resistance from compounds with unknown modes of action and resistance fitness characterisation. This employed drug resistant parasites with unique genomic barcodes being pooled and profiled by next generation sequencing after exposure to drug pressure or competitive growth.
