    The Sanger Institute played a major role in the genomic surveillance of the COVID-19 pandemic, providing large-scale high-throughput sequencing of the SARS-CoV-2 virus and analysis of its evolution and spread in the UK.

    Throughout the COVID-19 lockdown of 2020-2021 we hosted a series of monthly freely available and open virtual seminars. From using genomic approaches to map all cell types in the human body, understand how cancer develops, and track the evolution and spread of global diseases, our senior scientists and faculty presented the latest developments in their field.

Ahmad Zuheir bin Zaidon

Informatics & Digital Associate

As a Tech Talent Scheme Associate in the Tree of Life platform team, I specialise in front-end development, building infrastructure to visualise the project data. I also work on data management, transforming available data into key insights, ensuring that project stakeholders have clear, actionable information for informed decision-making and effective project management.

I am a bioengineering graduate with a strong foundation in technology transformation and consultancy. My experience spans executive search, project management, and bioengineering, combining data-driven decision-making with cross-disciplinary expertise. During my PhD in experimental biomechanics, I designed and tested innovative biotechnology, transforming experimental data into strategic insights and honing my project management skills.

Currently, I work with the Tree of Life platform team, developing front-end infrastructure to visualise genomic data for project oversight, helping stakeholders make informed decisions. I enjoy tackling complex challenges by merging methodical problem-solving with creativity, pushing technological boundaries to meet user needs.

My goal is to advance into roles focused on technology transformation and strategic consultancy, leveraging my technical background and leadership experience to drive innovation and operational efficiency in scientific research.
