Sanger Genomics Futures Series

Sanger Genomics Futures Series

The Wellcome Sanger Institute and Wellcome have been on an extraordinary journey over the past 30 years. Our organisations have led and shaped the field of genomics, alongside many other collaborators. But there’s still much more to do. Working closely together, the Sanger Institute and Wellcome will look towards the future and imagine the new opportunities presented by genomics research over the coming 25 years and how these could impact human health.

The genomics futures workshops are our way of opening both our organisations to a wide range of perspectives and help us explore and debate these opportunities, as well as future limitations. The outputs of the workshops, which will be shared openly, we hope will not only help inform how our organisations – as a research funder and research institute with a shared history and future – can respond to and tackle these challenges but also how other members of the life sciences community do the same.

We invite you to imagine and drive the future of genomics: Medicine, manufacturing and conservation in 2050

Professor Matthew Hurles, Director of the Wellcome Sanger Institute

I am delighted to invite you to join with fellow thought leaders from the academic, private and public sector to shape the next 25 years of the genomics revolution.

The Genomics Anticipation Workshop you have been invited to is one in a series to envision, explore and empower the future of life sciences, healthcare and generative biology.

From genome engineering and cellular generation to precision medicine and global conservation, you will share and challenge ideas and insights with fellow world-leading visionaries, entrepreneurs and policymakers for mutual benefit.

Genomic science is rapidly evolving, delivering ever-greater understanding of the biology of life, health, disease and environmental sustainability. As the scale and precision of technology and computing continue to develop, transformative opportunities to unlock the intricacies of life are becoming reality. Your wealth of experience and insights will be invaluable as how we explore together how we can leverage large-scale molecular experiments in biology to transform life, health, and well-being for future generations.

I look forward to you joining us on this journey to unlock the vast opportunities ahead of us.

Professor Matthew Hurles,
Director of the Welcome Sanger Institute
