Leadership and Governance
The Director
The Director, Matthew Hurles, has overall responsibility for all areas of Sanger, reporting to GRL Board four times per year and the Wellcome Trust Board of Governors once per year.
The Heads of Programmes, the Chief Operating Officer, Associate Director and Chief of Staff report directly to Matthew Hurles, with the Director of Scientific Operations having a dotted line to the Director (and reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer).
Director's Office
Matthew Hurles takes direct responsibility for overall science strategy and Faculty recruitment through his Director’s Office.
Sanger Leadership Team
The Sanger Leadership Team is an Executive Committee that reports to the Director and the Genome Research Limited (GRL) Board. It is designed to enable holistic and effective decision making, with transparency and accountability woven into its make up.
The Committee is made up of senior leaders that are tasked with making significant and sound decisions in the best interest of Sanger as it supports and delivers its scientific mission and positively influences Sanger’s organisational culture with a focus on equality, diversity and inclusion.
Faculty
The Faculty conceive, drive and deliver Sanger Institute science through their vision, imagination and intellectual energy.
