The Wellcome Sanger Institute Career Tracker annual survey aims to follow the careers of our former Postdoctoral Fellows and Faculty members. We are particularly interested in finding out the reasons for choosing your career path and to what extent your experience at the Sanger Institute has played a part in your career. We will use this data to better understand the career trajectories of our former Postdoctoral Fellows and to support the career development of the future cohorts of Postdoctoral Fellows at the Sanger Institute.
The survey should take about 15 minutes to complete. For more information about the career tracker please see our website www.sanger.ac.uk or contact career-tracker@sanger.ac.uk. The reporting will be in aggregate form only to preserve individual anonymity. Your answers will be stored securely in accordance with the privacy policy and not shared with anyone outside the Wellcome Sanger Institute.

What type of data we collect about you
Through your participation in the survey, we may collect a variety of data from you and about you, including but not limited to the following:
- Name
- Contact details (postal address, telephone number, email address)
- Employment details
- Any other information you provide
This data will only be collected directly from you.
Purposes and legal grounds for processing
The reason we collect this personal data is to understand career paths for former Sanger scientists, and how experiences at Sanger play a part in those scientists’ career progressions.
Our lawful justification in processing your personal data is your consent. You can withdraw consent and/or request that your personal data be deleted at any time.
What we do with the data and who we share it with
We use the information that you have given us for the to better understand the career trajectories of our former scientists and to support the career development of the future cohorts at the Sanger Institute.
We will aggregate data from survey responses received and may present results and statistics on our websites and/or in our promotional materials. We will not include any identifiable data in any of these reports or results.
We will not share any identifiable personal data with any other third parties.
How we store your data and when we delete it
Your personal data and responses to surveys will be stored on secure Sanger servers with password protection. Survey responses from anyone who agrees to take part in further annual surveys will be kept for longitudinal comparison. Survey responses from anyone who does not agree to take part in further annual surveys will be deleted after three (3) years.
We will delete any other personal data when your survey responses are deleted and/or if you request that we delete your data.
Your data protection rights
You may have the right to request access, rectification or erasure, amongst other rights, in relation to your personal data.
Any request to exercise one of these rights will be assessed by us on a case by case basis. There may be circumstances in which we are not legally required to comply with a request because of relevant exemptions provided for in applicable data protection legislation. If we are required to comply, we have one month to respond in most cases.

How to complain
If you have concerns about how we have handled your personal data, you should get in contact with us at dataprotection@sanger.ac.uk in the first instance.
