Using bioinformatic analysis of large WGS data sets, my current work aims to understand the emergence and spread of carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae (CPE). This group of bacteria causes a broad range of infections in humans and has become a major public health concern due to its ability to resist the last-line class of antibiotics, carbapenems.
Previously I was a PhD student in the Pathogen Genomics group at the Sanger Institute. My PhD research used genomic data to study the evolution and population dynamics of the bacterial pathogen, Legionella pneumophila, the causative agent of Legionnaires’ disease.
