Dr Ujjwal Banerjee

Postdoctoral Fellow

Ujjwal's research interest is focused on the application of genome-editing techniques to study somatic mutations.

Ujjwal joined the Jones Faculty in August 2021 and has since been working on an Open Targets project (OTAR033) to study somatic mutations in cancer. He uses genome editing techniques like CRISPR and base editing screens to study fitness of clones after oncogenic mutations.

Before joining the Sanger, he worked at the Pre-Clinical Genome Editing Team at CRUK, University of Cambridge developing molecular barcoding approaches to track, isolate and enrich populations of interest.

He obtained his PhD in Cell and Molecular Biology from Institut de génétique et de biologie moléculaire et cellulaire (IGBMC), Strasbourg where he studied DNA damage repair kinetics in mouse embryonic stem cells.
